Summary:

. . . That I'd say again. We all have lines that we really liked in our work, right? Well, pick ten (10) lines you've used and adored, and use them as prompts for other drabbles or one shots or . . . y'know, whatever.

If you choose to do this challenge, please put 10 Things I've Said somewhere in the summary, okay? That way I can see it!

Summary: You know the drill. I saw some challenges like this, so I wanted to put together one of my own. Unfortunately, I’m not huge into music, so it proved a bit difficult to find fifty songs with usable lyrics. Hopefully I still managed a bit of variety.

Rules
1. Any fandom, any characters, any point of view, any sort of pairing or lack thereof.
2. I don’t really care what you do with the prompts. Want to quote them? Fine. Want to use them as a general idea? Fine. Think the prompt is a little long and want to shave it down? Fine. Want to look up the rest of the song and use it as a song fic? Also fine!
3. Write your responses as long or as short as you want. This can be a collection or a whole story. It’s up to you.
4. Feel free to do these in any order you desire.
5. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. My details can be found on my profile.

The Lyrics
1. “So your tears fell and melted the snow. You told me secrets nobody had known, but I never loved you more even though now I knew what you did.” –Oh My Dear, Tenth Avenue North
2. “You’re a liar, but I’m a coward, so I can’t throw a stone. We’re so imperfect, but so worth it, because we’re not alone.” –We Fall Apart, We As Human
3. “Times will be bad, times will be good; things I wish I hadn’t done and some I wish I would.” –American Noise, Skillet
4. “It’s been fun, but now I’ve got to go. Life is way too short to take it slow, but before I go and hit the road, I gotta know ‘til then: When can I see you again?” –When Can I See You Again?, Owl City
5. “You act like you don’t know me when you see me on the street, acting like I turn you off when I know you think I’m sweet.” –Why Not?, Hilary Duff
6. “Guess what? I'm not a robot, a robot. Can you teach me how to feel real? Can you turn my power off?”—I Am Not a Robot, Marina and the Diamonds
7. “Only know you've been high when you're feeling low. Only hate the road when you’re missin' home. Only know you love her when you let her go, and you let her go.” –Let Her Go, Passenger
8. “Come with me now. Look and see how there’s an ocean overflowing with our hope. So let’s jump in and take a swim. It’s you and me forever.” –One Drop, Plumb
9. “Sometimes I, I just want to close my eyes and act like everyone's alright, when I know they're not.”—I Refuse, Josh Wilson
10. “I couldn’t understand. You wouldn’t take my hand. I watched you fall into the ocean below.”—Overboard, Manafest
11. “And we started at zero and went different ways, now we're all out here wasting away. And if we started at zero, then how did things change? Seems like just yesterday thinks were the same.” –Zero, Hawk Nelson
12. “In the end, everyone ends up alone. Losing her, the only one who’s ever known who I am, who I’m not, who I wanna be.” –You Found Me, The Fray
13. “Lonely and forgotten, never thought she’d look my way, and she smiled at me and held me, just like she used to do. Like she loved me, when she loved.” –When She Loved Me, Sarah McLachlan
14. “Just another day to punch the clock. I’d do anything to make it stop. Can’t take it much longer; I just need something stronger.” –Turn it On, Hawk Nelson

16. “I will be brave. I will not let anything take away what’s standing in front of me. Every breath, every hour has come to this.” –A Thousand Years, Christina Perri
17. “Well, does he leave a little note to tell you you are on his mind? Send you yellow flowers when the sky is grey? Hey! He’ll find a new way to show you, a little bit every day. That’s how you know, that’s how you know: he’s your love.” –That’s How You Know, Amy Adams

24. “Wrap your arms around me, I know, trying hard not let to go. Every time I stand up I fall without you. When you wrap your arms around me, I know, with me wherever I go. Nothing else matters at all when you’re here.” –Arms Around Me, Hawk Nelson
25. “It’s just one more day. No one said there would be rain again. Won’t blame it on myself. I’ll blame it on the weatherman.” –Blame it on the Weatherman, B-Witched
26. "How much longer will this keep getting stronger? I wonder what she’s doing when I’m singing myself to sleep. ‘Cause he’s a faker, so see you later. I wonder when you’ll realize that she means a lot more to me.” –Definitely Maybe, FM Static
27. “And all this time saying you were fine, and everyone still to blame. Well, there you are, you and your broken heart. It’s written all over your face.” –Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful, Seabird

31. “As he begins to raise his voice, you lower yours and grant him one last choice: Drive until you lose the road, or break with the ones you’ve followed. He will do one of two things: He’ll admit to everything, or he’ll say he’s just not the same, and you’ll begin to wonder why you came.” –How to Save a Life, The Fray
32. “All those days chasing down a daydream. All those years living in a blur. All that time never truly seeing things the way they were. Now she’s here, shining in the starlight. Now she’s here, suddenly I know.” –I See the Light, Mandy Moore; Zachary Levi

Summary: So, my friend told me about a type of story they wanted me to write, but since I have no idea how to, I'll leave it to you, wonderful writers. Your objective is this: Write a story (can be as long or as short as you like - just over 100 words) about "hard work that gets someone reaching their goal" (to quote my friend). I guess you can call it a motivation boost? Also, please leave it somewhere that you're writing for this prompt because I'd love to read your stories. Thanks, and good luck. ^-^

2 It can be as long as you like.

Prompts:

Ordinary Dream: Ordinary dreams often mirror real life experiences, but they are full of fantasie. They often have a deeper meaning.

Daydream: A vionary experience - but you are fully awake! It is just your brain that is asleep, trying to find a solution for problems. Or maybe you are just experiencing what a different life could be like.

Nightmare: A haunting dream that scares you to the very core, until you feel completely paralyzed. Weep in fear or kill the beast - either way, the experience is filled with the flames of hell.

Lucid Dream: And suddenly you are aware of your surroundings and you know that this is only a dream. But you can do everything that you want to do - nobody is there to lecture you. You are free to do everything.

Waking Up: The dream is over and reality strikes back. What's left are precious memories that are forever stuck in your brain - and heart.

Summary: A trope defined as “a story in which one small change has a ripple effect, resulting in massive changes.”

We’ve all seen them lurking in the dark corners of our favorite websites: the story of how the OC from the "real world" gets somehow trapped in the world of their favorite television show, manga, or game. Some of us may have even been guilty of writing one ourselves in our younger days. Ahem.

Normally what happens is that this OC/self-insert does little more than “mysteriously” know what’s going to happen. They develop or are shown to have abilities that help them to excel in their new world. They have parents that were abusive or uncaring so there’s no reason to go home. The character they love the most falls in love with them. If said character dies in-universe, the insert saves them or takes them back to the real world. Nothing changes outside of sarcastic or seemingly psychic commentary, and a dash of romance.

This is not what I want to see for this challenge.

You are to insert something from the “real” world into the universe of your chosen fandom. That something can be an OC, a self-insert, or a reader. Since that something is now in the universe, things are going to be different. Your “something” is the “nail” of this alternate universe of your chosen fandom.

You are, of course, allowed to follow what TV Tropes calls “The Stations of Canon.” Example: You want to insert something into KHR!. The usual plot important points such as Kokuyo Land, the Ring Trails, and the Future Arc can all be involved. However, the way these points unfold and end must be obviously different from what happened in the series. Perhaps your insert's presence means that Gokudera never becomes Tsuna's friend. Maybe your insert being there means Xanxus wins the Sky Ring instead. Something like that.

Basically, don’t just write the exact story with your insert something making snarky commentary and preventing all the bad stuff from happening. If the insert something stops one bad thing from happening, then some other unexpected bad thing would crop up as a result of preventing the other one. Make sure there are ripples that happen because of the insert something being there.

Important Considerations

1. Home

Does the reader want to get home? Will they and how?

2. Powers or Abilities

Make sure the reader has a reason to have powers or abilities similar to the main cast, or that they learn them at a reasonable rate. The real world does not have flames so the insert shouldn’t have that before arriving, but they could reasonably have been taught archery or some sort of weapon or martial art.

3. The New Universe

Is the new universe safe or threatening? If you thrust your insert into Naruto, most real world people aren’t going to be able to deal cheerfully with ninjas and death all around them right away, whether they are a fan of the series or not. Make sure the reactions are believable for whatever insert you fabricate.

4. How Much They Know

Is your insert up to date on One Piece or did they give up after the Alabasta Arc? Have they read spoilers for upcoming Marvel movies or just seen a few of the Phase 1 movies? Keep in mind what your reader knows, and therefore what they know to prevent and if they can.

5. Death—or Not

If your insert saves Sirius Black from death in a Harry Potter fan fiction, things are going to play out differently than they did in the series proper. The same is true for if the insert prevents Demyx from “fading” in Kingdom Hearts II. Don’t be tempted to tell the exact same story with two extra characters hanging about.

Rules/Clarifications

1. Word count must be 500+
2. Any sort of sexuality for any romances (including the insert or not) is fine.
3. Make sure this is a fan fiction. Having your fictional “real world” insert go into a fictional “fictional world” is not really in the spirit of the challenge.
4. Any fandom is fine for your fictional universe.
5. Don’t make your character have belonged to this fictional universe all along.

Essentially, what I’m looking for is a realistic, reasonably well-written version of an old, cringe-worthy classic sort of fan fic. Make the insert—whatever it is, so long as it’s a real world thing sent into a fictional world—believable. Obviously the part where they get to this fictional world won’t be so realistic, though, so go wild for that bit. Try to have fun!

As always, please feel free to e-mail me for clarification on anything here. I feel that I might not have made myself as plain as I could have, and I’d hate for confusion to prevent anyone from trying their hand at this.

Summary: You know what’s really popular right now? Retelling fairytales. Movies do it; books do it; I’m sure other forms of media do as well. So why not get some fan fiction in on the proceedings?

Here’s the deal: Take a fairytale, preferably one that’s well known, though it doesn’t have to be. Then, rewrite it in the context of your chosen fandom!

Here’s the twist: No AUs. I want you to completely and utterly fit your rewritten tale into the timeline and structure that already exists in the anime or manga or movie or whatever that you picked. That means no making the reader a princess and setting it in the middle ages. It also means you can’t just slap “Dark!Tsuna” on as the Beast character in a Beauty and the Beast retelling. If you want to use Tsuna in that role, figure out how to make it make sense with his actual characterization. Retell Cinderella with the whole of The Mortal Instruments and not just the characters. Work Sleeping Beauty into Free! without scrapping the high school swim team element. Get my drift?

A few extra details:

1. I use “reader character” when speaking of the female love interest, but feel free to use only canon characters, or even your fandom character if you prefer.

2. Gender swapping the roles is fine. Want to rewrite Rapunzel with Twilight characters and make Edward Rapunzel and the reader character the prince? That’s perfectly fine.

3. Related to the above, do whatever you like with the sexuality of your characters. If you want to rewrite the Little Mermaid with the reader character as the mermaid and Natasha Romanoff as the prince, you go for it. I think asexuality would be difficult in a fairytale, but if you can manage it (or find a good fairytale for that idea), then feel free to do that as well. Seriously, anything goes.

4. The point is to retell a fairytale story while making it believable in the context of your chosen fandom’s canon. That means no making canon characters out of character to suit your purposes, or just lifting plot details and items straight from your fairytale. A ball to choose a wife at isn’t going to make sense in most fandoms, and you’d get more creativity “points” if you used something other than a glass slipper retelling Cinderella.

5. Your fairytale is going to look different than the original. That’s the point. Plan things out. Think outside the box.

6. This challenge is not for drabble or ficlet collections. You must write enough to encompass the fairytale you're retelling. One shots, therefore, are fine, as is writing a novel-length story.

7. Use whatever fandom in whatever media you would like for this.

8. The only limitation is that this challenge is not for original fiction. In that case, you don’t have a fandom to fit the story in and the rest of the rules are moot!

9. You may adapt fairytales in their generally more violent or sad incarnations, or those that have been through "Disneyfication."

Hopefully I gave enough examples that the idea I'm going for here is clear. As always, if you’re interested but don’t quite understand, please feel free to contact me. My contact information can be found on my profile.

Summary: I dare you guys to try to write one fic without a single swear word in it. I've tried it; it is ridiculously hard. No F bombs, no damns, no shits. Good luck. I don't particularly care if you tag this challenge in it, but it'd be funny to see you try.

Summary: Your characters have been rendered mute. Or, if you would prefer, your hands have told very specifically that they can no longer stray to those dreaded quotation marks for the duration of your story. Without words, without sound, your challenge is to portray emotion and get your point(s) across. Write about whatever catches your fancy, but feel free to point me to it, as I would very much like to see what the responses to this would be.

Summary: Something I have noticed about reader inserts is that the reader is almost always CIS heterosexual (or bisexual). That’s fine and dandy, as I’m sure plenty of actual readers are—but what about opening up the possibility to readers that aren’t and might like to see something closer to a representation of themselves?

What I would like to see is a fan fiction where the READER (not the canon character, not an OC) is non-CIS, non-heteroromantic, non-heterosexual, a combination…or even all at the same time. It’s something I’ve been trying to expand upon in my own writing (though I need to do more), and I’d like to see other people try their hand at doing so as well.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

1. It is the reader that must be the non-majority.

2. You may do what you need to do with whatever romantic interest(s) you have, but if they are a canon character from something, do try to keep them in character (unless you’re one of those AU writers that don’t care about characterization).

3. Do your research. Be respectful.

4. Keep in mind that popular media portrayals aren’t necessarily correct. For instance, binding your chest with ace bandages is severely unhealthy. Your reader character might not know that, but it might be nice if you gave your readers a head’s up in an author’s note when things like that come up.

6. Remember that there is a difference between a story where a character being (for example) bigender is the entire point, and one where the character just is. I’m asking for the latter, but I won’t stop you from writing the former.

7. If you do the latter, make sure the fact that they are (another example) asexual comes up. Obviously, the reader character will have other interests, problems, and thoughts than their sexuality, but if they never discuss it and waltz away happily with your favorite boy from SnK, that’s not actually completing the challenge.

8. You don’t have to go the extreme route of any choice you make. If your reader character is a CIS bisexual girl and she ends up with CIS heterosexual boy from Once Upon A Time, that’s fine, so long as you actually wrote her as bisexual.

9. Remember that sexuality and romanticism can be entirely different!

10. This challenge is open to any length you’d like: drabble collections, one shots, and novel length stories are all applicable.

11. This challenge is open to any sort of story, fan fiction or original or crossover or whatever, so long as it is written in the second person point of view.

That’s it for now. If you feel that I have said or requested anything rude, insensitive, or otherwise ignorant, do feel free to message me so I can correct my mistakes. (:
